Born on November 7, 1958 in Fort Worth, Texas to Dr. & Mrs. Donald Brooks; attended Nolan Catholic High School. His family has been deeply involved in medical care for over 50 years; his brother, sister-in-law and cousin all maintain active medical practices in Fort Worth, Texas. His father and uncle, now deceased, practiced here for a combined total of over 80 years.

- Former faculty member of The University of North Texas Health Science Center from 9/98 - 9/02; he hosted medical students in his office for 1-month externships.
- Served on Board of Directors for Jesse Jackson Charter School (unrelated to the civil rights activist), an alternative school for inner city teenagers.
